Features and pricing

Our Tracking Services (the software) are divided into three levels – Basic, Premium and Ultimate (which currently includes 3D Flyovers)!  See below for a breakdown of the different features for each level of tracking.

There are two main ways we price our tracking services. One is when we only provide the tracking software and participants or event organisers provide the actual tracking device. The second is when we provide both the software and the tracking device.

The prices listed below are for the tracking software only and are per participant.

  • Please note that after 7 days the additional daily charge is halved and is halved again after 30 days. 
  • There is an additional charge of USD$7 per 1,000 views above the allocated 1,000 views per participant (applicable mainly to larger events)

USER EXPERIENCE
Easy to find participants
This feature is great for larger events where it is difficult for fans to follow individual competitors. You can show and hide markers, add favourites to make bigger and on top, add history etc. +
Mobile App for tracking and messages
Download a free Android or iOS App before the event. Participants can use their smartphone as a tracker and/or add geolocated messages and stories. These will be added to the map alongside the satellite tracking (if used). +
Optimised viewing for different devices
We have different mobile and desktop views to make it easy to use on small touch screens, in portrait, and larger desktop computers in landscape view with mouse-overs etc. +

PERFORMANCE
Real-time updates
We use the very latest technology to send updates to the browser in real-time as soon as locations are available. Updates happen in just a few seconds, probably about 50 times as fast as most other tracking systems - that use a periodic refresh. MAProgress is more like watching a video with updates happening all the time. +
Scalability
MAProgress was designed to cope with thousands of participants and millions of viewers. The system is hosted on the Microsoft Azure platform with automatically scaling virtual machines and databases, ensuring fast loading and quick updates. We automatically cluster markers so that performance is not impacted, even for very large events on old phones. +
Fast loading
We use a range of techniques to make our tracking maps load as fast as possible. Data usage on cellular devices is kept to an absolute minimum. Compare our system to others by right clicking and select View Source, or check out the network tab in the Developer Tools. Typically we see other systems using 10 to 100 times the data. +
Satellite tracker refresh rate: 10 minutes
Only applicable to privately owned trackers. Rental devices and trackers with a direct connection to MAProgress update in real-time. We query the Garmin InReach MapShare page and findmespot.com XML feeds every 10 minutes to load updates. +

CUSTOMISATION
Administrator customisation
Administrators or event organisers can change almost any setting, the customisation is almost limitless. MAProgress is the only system we know of where you can create and customise your own event, but we can help set it up too. +
DIY
Participants can register themselves on MAProgress and be added to the map in real-time, or go back and make changes to their registration at any time. Once underway, participants can withdraw themselves if needed, add photos, switch their course etc. Administrators can also make any changes and can manually update finish times (which are normally automatically calculated) to ensure rankings are correct. +
Custom markers
Crystal clear customised markers make it easy to identify participants and split into groups (e.g. by course, gender etc.). Participants can even choose their own marker colour. +
Pre-defined route(s)
Limited to one route and/or .kml file, for display purposes only +

DATA
Security
All data and pages are loaded and encrypted over https:// for privacy and personal safety. This also means the map can be embedded on secure pages. +

HISTORY
Arrows for marker history
See how fast a participant is moving and in which direction, and where they stop for rests. It's easy to see rest breaks, as when a participant stops, the GPS keeps sending semi-random positions over a small area, creating a cluster of markers on the map. +
Tracking details available for 3 months
For 3 months you can go back to the tracking map and view all marker history including time and location. Tracking is removed at the end of that 3-month period. +

Statistics
Over 20 different statistics are available including route distance, time at last location, moving time, ascent. You can compare statistics of participants. +

Viewer customisation
Under Map Settings individual viewers can change units, map overlays, markers, history etc. +
Custom fields
You can choose as many as you like (name, number, categories, multiple photos, biographies etc). These details are displayed in the participants list, separate profile pop-up window, and/or on the map marker's popup window. +
Pre-defined route(s)
You can upload multiple customised routes on the one map. This is a great feature for events that have multiple distances at their event. Mile markers and arrows are displayed along the route so followers can easily see where participants are at. Route distance is calculated for every point so many more statistics are available. It's very flexible, if you can imagine it on Google Earth, then you'll be able to display it on MAProgress - we can upload any .kml, .gpx or .tcx file, even join multiple files together. +

DATA
Elevation Profile
Watch participants move along an elevation profile. This is placed below the official tracking map. View current elevation and ascent/descent. The elevation profile is dynamic and zooms in and out with the map so you can appreciate what the terrain is like for the participants. +

PROMOTION
Embed the tracking map on your own website
Tracking will be easier for fans to find. Increase exposure and traffic to both your event and your own site. Add value for sponsors. +

HISTORY
Tracking details available for 1 year
For 1 year you can go back to the tracking map and view all marker history including time and location. Tracking is removed at the end of that 1-year period. +
Playback capability
Animated, smooth playback between tracking points, along the route, or via tracking points only. +

WINDY VIEW
Switch to Windy view to see current and/or forecast conditions along the course, especially useful in sailing events. +

MOBILE APP
Display the route on the Map and use our navigation features (keep the map centred and oriented North, or show your location at the bottom of the map and oriented in the direction of travel. +

OTHER
No advertising
MAProgress Google Ads show up on map in Basic View only. +
Custom changes
We're always improving the system, do you have a suggestion? - we'll do it at no charge if it can be applied to other events too. +

USER EXPERIENCE
Photos (Mobile App. or Upload later)
Unique to MAProgress. Take photos with your mobile phone. photos will be geolocated and uploaded when you get cell service, leaving a camera indicator along your path for friends at home to view what you are experiencing. Photos are displayed on the map at the point taken. +
Google Earth: updated every minute
Viewing in 3D with participant markers allows a unique perspective of the event. Course fly overs are included with every event. On a mobile device Google Earth starts flying along the course as soon as it is opened. It looks very cool! +

PERFORMANCE
Continuously (predicted) moving markers
Trackers only transmit their position every few minutes. We have created algorithms to calculate the participant's actual position in real-time based on current speed etc. This creates a movie like experience where you can get a better feel for the speed of participants and who is travelling together. +
Satellite tracker refresh rate: 2.5 minutes
Only applicable to privately owned trackers. +

CUSTOMISATION
Name or number on markers
Switch between tracking participants by name and number. This is useful for event staff who track by number and event viewers who track by participant name. +

PROMOTION
Display sponsor logos
Display event sponsors' logos (with a link to their website) to increase exposure. +

DATA
Automatic time zones for satellite trackers
Useful for international participants or events across multiple time zones. The time zone is calculated from the participant's latitude/longitude. +

HISTORY
Tracking details available forever
Tracking data is stored forever. You can go back to the tracking map and view all marker history including time and locations. +
Time splits
Show the arrival at transitions or specific locations along the route, with different statistics. For example: average speed, distance travelled each day. Time splits can also be viewed by day. +

MOBILE APP
Offline Map Tiles available on request, participants can download just the map tiles corresponding to the route, great for offline navigation +

Elevation profile in the App so participants can see what's coming up and plan their time accordingly +

OTHER
Integrated official timing
We can import timing data automatically from RFID chips to display in the time splits window, or timekeepers can enter this manually. Note: requires advance notice to be able to develop/integrate with other systems. +

ULTIMATE 3D
Switch to 3D view for a more realistic perspective of the course. All features available in other views including playback and highlighted participants are also available in 3D view. You can also switch base maps - for those that have difficulty with topo maps 3D adds a totally different perspective and brings them to life! +

FLYOVERS
Something you're not likely to ever see anywhere else, flyovers in MAProgress are super-awesome! Fly along the course like a bird, zooming in and out, speeding up or slowing down. You can even select a participant and replay the event following them and seeing where other participants were close by in 3D. We first created 3D flyovers in Google Earth back in 2015, but the in-browser version allows so much more flexibility and ease of use. This was the most fun piece of work I (Shane) have done in my entire career! +
Broadcast View - Coming Soon!
Built on top of our amazing 3D flyovers, as the event is live, we fly between each participant, following the course, and displaying vital information such as their distance, last time at a transition, ETA at the next transition or end etc. Set up for the big screen, this enables followers to see where their participants are, even when they may not have an internet connection of their own. +

GOOGLE MAPS
Available on request, we can even display your event on Google Maps if needed, however, due to the extra cost, there is an extra USD$8 per 1,000 views charged. +
